Malt Whisky

malts on shelf Scottish malt whisky is famous the world over and The Halfway House offers a range of between thirty and forty from all over the country. There are the old favourites such as “Macallan”, “Glenmorangie”, and “Highland Park” but there are plenty of less well-known ones from which to choose. There is a choice of Islay malts as well as a special selection, always changing, of single cask, non-chill filtered malts. These are the whiskies favoured by the connoisseurs and we always try to include some from some closed distilleries so that our customers can savour some rare, and even unrepeatable malts. Prices range from £2.60 to £3.60 for a nip so won’t break the bank.

Try The Halfway House “Malt Whisky Tour.”  The pub offers a selection of nine specially selected malts - all single cask, non-chill-filtered whiskies - and these represent the very best in malt whiskies.  You can try a malt from any of the different areas of production - Highland, Island, or Lowland and you can even try some from closed distilleries.  The “tour” consists of four whiskies of your choice - you can sample four different ones or four of the same, all at a special price of £13 (normally around £15).  The whiskies will vary but some are bottled at over thirty years of age while others are only youngsters at 15 or 16!  Nearly always over-proof - that is over 40% alcohol by volume, many weigh in at around 60% so they are to be taken seriously.
