How To Find The Halfway House
From the Waverley Station
Leave by the Old Town (Market Street) exit - this is the footbridge that crosses the station between Princes Street and Princes Mall and the Old Town. Cross Market Street and go up the flight of steps facing you between the City Art Gallery and the Sports Bar. This is Fleshmarket Close.
From the Royal Mile
Come down Cockburn Street. This leaves the Royal Mile (Edinburgh High Street) very close to the cross roads with the North and South Bridge (known locally as “the bridges”). Fleshmarket Close is the first close, or flight of steps off Cockburn Street on the right.
If you come by car
Basically, Edinburgh Council do not like car drivers! If, however, you are not afraid of traffic wardens who don’t take prisoners and parking costs that make people from other cities quake in their boots, parking is possible. You can park on Market Street or Cockburn Street for up to 2 hours for the cost of lots of pints of beer. You can park on East Market Street for up to 4 hours for just as much. Those in the know park either on the large railway station car park on New Street (£12.00 for the day - less if somebody has a train ticket) or, if they can get on there, they use one of the hotel car parks on the Royal Mile. Parking is free after 6.30 and on Sundays but there are many times when the council ban all parking to allow for marches so do take care.
“You weren’t drunk, they just towed your car away - again!”
